Our Mission
Conserve, Maintain & Protect Open Space
We’re a nonprofit group of your neighbors who have worked for over 50 years to protect open space in Amherst and surrounding towns.
Public access to open space promotes connections in the natural world—for conservation, recreation, and community well-being. Once protected, wetlands, fields, and woodlands create interconnected ecosystems rich in plant and animal life that make all of our lives better.

Our Mission

We also enjoy economic benefits, like cost-effective access to clean water and the protection of rural character that boosts property values.
As a private organization, the Trust can act quickly when (or before) special properties hit the real estate market. Our trustees' years of experience then allow us to structure land deals and conservation easements that benefit the public as well as landowners and developers—and may spin off tax breaks and facilitate estate planning.
We are proud of projects like Lindabury Orchard, Grater Woods, Bragdon Hill, Joshua’s Park, and Post Road Forest. But more parcels just like these are at risk of disappearing. When they are gone, they are gone for good.
So the time to act is now! We invite you to learn more about how we preserve land. Visit the lands we've protected.
Contact us, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteer with us and help protected open spaces.
And of course, consider a donation.
